So, Ciwt has been catching up on two true life tales told materfully on film. One a downer, the other the opposite.
First the downer. Not at all because it isn't told well. In the case of Martin Scorcese's Killers of the Flower Moon, the word 'masterful' more than applies. Many are calling his movie a Masterpiece which Ciwt didn't understand because she had a few quibbles with it here and there. Then she spoke with a friend who is highly educated in film technique and learned that when film experts use 'masterpiece' they are often referring to things like scene set up, lighting, camera choice and angle and other technicalities beyond acting and plot development.
So, Killers is likely a masterpiece but it is also 3 1/2 hours of watching which is demanding for the viewer. And it tells a bleak and, unfortunately, absolutely true story.
The up story. Nyad, is a masterpiece of swimming . Or rather singluarly rugged, nearly inhuman determination, focus, stamina, courage while in the act of swimming. Also true. And also of excellent and courageous acting on the part of two legendary actors of a certain age.
