That's Two --- Day 6/71

Walk: Cinema Club (A Quiet Passion)
Distance:  2 miles then continued deep research for upcoming tour.  Ooops, just a minute Ciwt.

Image result for emily dickinson movie 2017

Cynthia Nixon was excellent today in the new movie about Emily Dickinson, A Quiet Passion.  Too bad there were extended, extennnnnded periods of maudlin depression, illness, death that drag the movie away from its better aspects.  Also peculiar, stilted language.  Ciwt says C+ and certainly only for the Dickinson lovers or those curious about her.

And did Ciwt tell you that right before she sat down to write today, she received an email from her Matisse Diebenkorn group - Cancelling?  That's the second time for this San Diego group - a bit out of Ciwt's control because they come to her through her So. Cal associate.  Lots of hours of research (and some anxiety) but at least many were about her artist love, Matisse - and part of her wasn't too keen on touring this particular show.  Anyway, they may reschedule before the show closes at the end of May.

Has Ciwt also mentioned that she isn't a big fan of surprises, people and schedule surprises? A bit better at handling them than Miss Dickinson, but, oh, that poetry.

So, here goes Ciwt into research on the (sort of repellant to her) SFMOMA's current Matisse/Diebenkorn exhibition.  She will tour it next week when she will, hopefully,
be more inclined toward the concept and show.  Stay tuned.....

Day 6/66

Walk: Dogpatch, Japantown (massage)
Distance: 5.2 miles, teeny yoga-stretch

Dogpatch, the new art neighborhood, is truly historic having been unaffected by the 1906 earthquake. Some of the homes and buildings there are the oldest in San Francisco and were occupied by the dockworkers, boat builders and other laborers needed to support this sudden city - and themselves. Architecturally we are not talking - nor were they- about charming Vistorians but basic nuts and bolts shelter.

As of this writing, Dogpatch is the third most expensive rental neighborhood in San Francisco.  One bedroom apartments are $3,000+ and no buildings are on the market for less than $1.5 million.  As you can see, the former 'residents' (most drug and alcohol addicted street people) are nowhere to be seen.

No politics here.  Just an eye-opening day for Ciwt as she gave her art tour.

Next Stop: Dogpatch --- Day 6/65

Walk: Presidio Golf Cafe, T. Joes
Distance: .5 mi, 2 small yogas

Image result for dogpatch san francisco

Doesn't sound very snappy but Dogpatch is morphing from a, well, down at the heels neighborhood, into a happening art community and center (They hope..).  Ciwt will take a tour there tomorrow to check it out.

Please Pass the Salt --- Day 6/63

Walk: de Young Museum (Exhibiton and Lecture: Stuart Davis, Exhibition: Summer of Love
Distance: 4.2 miles, small yoga

Stuart Davis, Salt Shaker, 1931, oil on canvas, 49 7/8" x 32"

Ciwt has always liked Stuart Davis's art.  Arguably the first truly American modern artist working with the American vernacular (like a plane old salt shaker) but in modernist style (not exactly what a salt shaker looks like - except to his artistic eye).  We have an excellent show of his work here at the deYoung from the Whitney in New York throughout the spring and summer. https://deyoung.famsf.org/stuart-davis-full-swing Good; Ciwt looks forward to going several times.

Okay, Ciwt, which one is it going to be?  Choosing the right pillow is a soft art.  Even Mr. Matisse looks perplexed.

Just the Facts, Maam --- Day 6/58

Walk: Up and Down, Up and Down Stairs, Hood Returns, Golf Club Book Group
Distance: 2 miles

Image result for last days of night

Well told story about the advent of electricity in the U.S. slotting in 'facts' wherever to serve it.  Reads like a cliffhanging screenplay, and, guess what, movie is about to be made.  History major Ciwt finds such books/movies entertaining (sometimes) but questions the concept of turning historical figures and events into whatever fiction the writer has in mind and presenting them as facts.

Done By a Woman --- Day 6/53

Walk: SFMOMA (of course)
Distance: 2.6 miles

Elaine de Kooning, Bullfight, 1959, oil on canvas

Ciwt couldn't tell if this woman was doing her nails in front of an Elaine de Kooning painting at the Palm Springs Art Museum's  Women of Abstract Expressionism  show.  Probably not because the show was interesting and well-presented with several large and engaging paintings by each artist as well as large pictures and informative information on all of them. But, then, a snag can drive you crazy..

"Unofficially" Officially Therapeutic --- Day 6/45

Walk: Japantown Massage Spa
Distance: 3.5 miles and Massage

Image result for therapeutic massage

Walker, Ciwt, tends to totally forget about the benefits of massage - particularly on her leg muscles that get tighter and tighter as she walks.  Not just forget, she actually has 'massage' filed in her mind in several outdated categories: wimpy/pathetic, alternate (worst case, sexual parlours), just temporary/same as back rubs, not 'officially' therapeutic, too expensive, yoga stretching is just as good/probably better, etc.  And she's, well, wrong - which she was reminded of today when she at long last got herself onto a massage table.

The 'unofficial' therapist put one hand on Ciwt and nearly shrieked because the area was so obviously hard as a rock (and thus not receiving proper circulation).  This seemed almost magical to non-believer Ciwt that this person would have gone to exactly the place she was kind of thinking of maybe mentioning (as killing her).   Now she has a bit more more understanding why Medicare and other insurance programs is beginning to include massage therapy (and maybe some day yoga and other Eastern modalities...).
