Walk: The Mindful Body, Laurel Village, Trader Joe's
Distance: 2.5 miles and take yoga class
Well, tomorrow is Ciwt's big day. The movies have been seen, the popcorn has been bought, and the festivities begin as early as 1:30 in the afternoon and could go on until 10 in the evening - or, 8.5 hours. We're talking the Oscars of course.
People are asking:
-Will the TV audience for the 2014 Oscars be the oldest ever?
-Will Ellen DeGeneres be the Oscar comfort food producers are seeking?
-How good will the $1.8 Million 30-second ads be?
-Will there be gaffes that become water cooler moments?
Ciwt is asking:
-Will there be any truly terrible gowns? Please.
-Amazingly beautiful ones? Sure, fine.
-What will be her watching projects? (laundry? closets? cat grooming? Whatever they are, they can't take much concentration).
-Will one of her least favorite movies be Best Picture?
That would be 1. Gravity and 2. 12 Years a Slave. About Gravity, loyal CIWT readers have read Ciwt's thoughts in 2/274 and 2/316.
12 Years a Slave comes with more guilt and ambivalence for Ciwt. It is excellent, no question. The dreadful and difficult - and true - story is told probably perfectly. The acting is Superb starting with the lead, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and including the supporting actor and actress Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong'o. So, that pretty much means the movie should get: Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Movie. Ciwt totally acknowledges and admires all these things, but still stumbles at wanting to supremely reward a movie that is so gut-wrenchingly traumatic and sadistically violent from beginning to end. Even if true. So, it's personal.
-How will Ciwt's picks fare? (See Days 3/7 and 3/8 for her personal picks and stay tuned for CIWT Post- Oscar commentary).
