Floating Art Studios --- Day 2/282

Walk: Trader Joe's
Distance: 2 miles and home yoga practice

Claude Monet, The Studio Boat, 1874, o/c

One of my favorite paintings (besides the three exquisite! Caillbotte's) in the recently closed Legion of Honor show, Impressionists On the Water, is this oil by Monet.  It is a painting of his floating studio. He bought the boat shortly after moving to Argenteuil and converted it into a studio which he kept moored near his home and used to get vistas from the water.

This was actually an idea he got from Charles-Francois Daubigny who converted a small  riverboat into a floating studio in 1857.  He named it Botin and designated Corot as honorary Admiral. From it he painted one of my favorite paintings in the Legion of Honor collection.
